It begins now

The idea itself may have struck me today, but the necessity for this project was surely percolating for generations before me. People have always shared clothes; passed down from one sibling to another or donated from neighbour to new parent. We know our wardrobe serves more of a purpose than simply to cover us or keep us clean. We spend our lives in these garments, their colours and textures woven into our memories, and they have the ability to magically cloak us in confidence. Clothing can be a tool for economic growth, but for many it is simply another barrier.

I want deeply to help cut away at that problem (pun intended.) I feel incredibly lucky to have the privilege to work from home, exploring my creativity and passions. Too recently I was like most people, struggling to afford to eat and keep a roof over my head, trying desperately to find a path to better my circumstances long-term. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves for the week or being able to have clothes to wear to a job interview. Or to work. Or to school. Period. Clothes are a human right.

All this being said, of course I don’t have everything figured out yet! My goal right now is to work locally in my community, and encourage others who feel passionate about this to do the same. I suspect most of the garments will be given away in person or through connecting with community programs to bring these clothes to the people who need and will love them most. I will document everything I receive and donate, and of course be contributing my time and skills for free.

If you feel compelled to donate, get involved, or simply have any questions or helpful suggestions, please reach out!

P.S.

If you are just meeting me, Hello! I’m Lex and I’m just a woman with a dream to leave people who come across my path better than when I met them. I’m an animal-loving Quaker with a passion for creating things (and ADHD).

Thank you for being here <3
